Captain Rob Gams assures all visitors to Orange Beach, AL that no matter what is in season, he will take you to the best spots aboard the Cool Breeze charter boat and give you the opportunity to catch some truly amazing fish.
Depending on the time of year you are coming to Orange Beach or Gulf Shores, there are many fish species you can keep if you book a long enough trip or come during certain times of the year. The most common fish we catch are: red snapper, vermilion, red grouper, greater amberjack, lesser amberjack, cobia, Spanish mackerel, king mackerel, red drum, jolthead porgy and red porgy.
Our Trip Packages and Durations
3-5 Hour Packages
Our shorter charter fishing trips are perfect for families or smaller groups that want to experience the water and ride on a comfortable boat without the intensity and expense of a longer trip. The primary means of fishing is generally trolling for nearshore species, though some bottom fishing can be allocated under the right conditions. Although these trips can be quite productive at times, the main emphasis is on having a good time on the water. One exception to this occurs with the annual cobia run, generally in April and May. This highly coveted fish is exciting to hook up, provides a formidable fight and tastes delicious.
March-April-May--------Spanish Mackerel, Cobia (April-May)
June-July-Aug------Spanish Mackerel, King Mackerel, Red Snapper (5-hour trip only, in season)
Sept-Oct-Nov----Red Fish, Spanish Mackerel, King Mackerel
6-8 Hour Packages
These fishing trips are for a little more serious fishing, involving bottom fishing for some of our more common reef species. We generally troll on the way out to the bottom fishing grounds, sometimes fast and other times slow depending on what happens to be the most productive then. (We often catch king mackerel, as well as Spanish mackerel and sometimes wahoo). Bear in mind that though certain reef fish are not available for retention during the whole year, all can be enjoyed by catching and releasing (after a photo shoot, of course).
March-April-May--------Amberjack, Triggerfish (seasonal), Vermilion Snapper, White Snapper
June-July-Aug-------Red Snapper, Vermilion Snapper (beeliners), White Snapper
Sept-Oct-Nov----Amberjack (seasonal), Vermilion Snapper, White Snapper
Dec-Jan-Feb-------Amberjack (seasonal), Vermilion Snapper, White Snapper
10-12 Hour Packages
Designed for the serious bottom fisherman, this length of a fishing adventure not only offers all the reef species you would expect to find on the shorter bottom-fishing trips, but also the added time allows us to go farther and to deeper water. Here, we are much more likely to encounter some of our several grouper species including scamp, gag and snowy. Some customers have been joining in on the latest craze by deep dropping with electric reels. This can load the boat fast and enables us to experience some of the more exotic species, such as sea bass and golden tilefish. The Cool Breeze charter boat has the best equipment available for this type of adventure. This length of trip is productive throughout the entire year.
14-16 Hour Packages

Blue marlin, white marlin, wahoo, mahi-mahi (dorado) and yellowfin tuna may all be encountered. In addition, there is the opportunity to do some bottom fishing if so desired.

The best of both worlds. These trips offer limitless opportunities. The overnighters, in my opinion, are the best bang for your hard-earned buck. Combining bluewater trolling with the best advantage for bottom fishing, your group will have a multitude of species to choose to target. In addition, whichever reef species happen to be in season, you will be able to retain a two-day limit. Departure times will vary to offer you, the angler, the most advantageous fishing experience.
